Durability and Aging Characteristics of Sustainable Paving Mixture

Abstract: With the industrial revolution, many inventions have been introduced with many solid waste materials in return. This study investigates the potential recycling of waste plastic sheets, made from low-density polyethylene, as asphalt modifier in the paving mixture. The shredded plastic sheet was used in the asphalt mixture via the wet process. The dosage rate was set up to 9 % by weight of asphalt binder (0,3,6, and 9)%. The experimental program was designed to assess the mechanical properties (Marshall stabilit… Show more

“…Abdulmadjid) considered to play a key role in saving the world from plastic waste disaster [3,4]. One of the examples of the recycled plastic use is in asphalt mixture [5,6], which requires certain type of plastics to achieve optimum durability. Prior to recycling process, an important step needs carried out is classifying the plastic waste based on its type [3].…”

“…On the other side, these developments in building materials and industry resulted in accumulation of waste materials. These synthetic materials are nonbiodegradable [20] that means it will accumulate over the land and cause land and marine pollution. Fortunately, these waste materials can be recycled and used as concrete fibers.…”
