“…The rates of production of N 2 and N 2 O, and consequently N 2 -selectivity (Eq. (1)) depend on the extent of NO dissociation (reaction 4) which is followed by the elementary reactions (5) and (6). The observed increase in the N 2 -selectivity upon alkali addition is a consequence of increased NO dissociation (due to alkali) i.e.…”

“…Doping the catalyst supporting material with additives (e.g. MoO 3 or WO 3 [5,6], CeO 2 , Na 2 O or K 2 O [7], La 2 O 3 [8][9][10]) or by using supports other than ␥-Al 2 O 3 (e.g. YSZ, TiO 2 , doped-TiO 2 [11,12]).…”

“…The regeneration feed gas mixture of 500 vppm propane, 10 vol-% steam, 8 vol-% CO2, and N2 in balance, with a total GHSV of 120,000 h −1 was used to simulate the engine exhaust at slightly fuel rich conditions. Propane is commonly used as a model compound [30,31,94,95] for the HC species. Liquid water was injected at 0.68 mL/h by a syringe pump (Cole Parmer), vaporized at around 120 °C, and mixed with the incoming gas feed.…”

“…Meanwhile, Rh + −O−Ce and [Rh−O2] 2− species are likely formed in an oxidative environment [26][27][28][29]. At high temperature, treatment of Rh/CeO2 in air leads to the formation of Rh2O3 [30], slight Rh metal sintering [31,32], and segregation of Rh cations into the CeO2 lattice [33,34]. Rh may also incorporate into the sublattice ZrO2, leading to decrease in metal redox behavior [35].…”

“…It is of interest to discover means of enhancing the catalytic properties of Pt-group metals in order to (i) reduce the noble metal loading and (ii) reduce or replace the usage of Rh because of its scarcity in comparison with Pt and Pd (∼1 : 15) (1,2). Efforts thus far have focused on improving the catalytic properties of Pd and Pt for reactions relevant to three-way catalytic chemistry by doping the support material with additives (e.g., MoO 3 or WO 3 (7)(8)(9), CeO 2 , Na 2 O, or K 2 O (10), and La 2 O 3 (11)(12)(13) or by using supports other than γ -Al 2 O 3 (e.g., yttria-stabilised zirconia (YSZ), TiO 2 , doped TiO 2 (14,15). These strategies have indeed improved significantly the activity and selectivity of Pd and Pt for NO reduction to N 2 .…”
