Durability of Textile Reinforced Concrete: Existing Knowledge and Current Gaps

Abstract: This paper aims to provide a review of the current literature on the durability of textile-reinforced concrete and mortar (TRC/TRM) composites. Most previous studies have focused on the role of chemical attacks, freeze-thaw conditions, and high temperatures on the mechanical performance of these composites. Information on the long-term performance of TRCs under synergistic action of mechanical and environmental loads is scarce. Considering the variety of fabrics and matrices used for the production of TRC comp… Show more

“…These indicate a minor influence of frost exposure on the bond and tensile bearing behavior of TRC members. [28][29][30] However, frost exposure causes structural damage to concrete, and in particular, scaling of the concrete surface if de-icing agents (e.g., NaCl) are used. In case of concrete used in infrastructural applications, this is a crucial environmental impact.…”

“…Silica fume addition affects the permeability and strength. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that fly ash and metakaolin have a significant influence on durability [26]. Metakaolin as a supplement in a grout in soil nailing applications ensures safety, quality, reliability and at the same time nontoxic and eco-friendly, but decrease in mechanical performance due to the huge volume decrease of cement content (-60%).…”
