Dust-acoustic filamentation of a current-driven dusty plasma

In this paper, the dissipative instabilities in the interaction of an ion beam with unmagnetized and strongly magnetized plasmas are investigated. In both cases, relevant dispersion equations of high-frequency and ion acoustic waves are obtained. In addition, the resonance frequencies and growth rates of the instabilities are derived. It is shown that the thermal motion of charged particles has positive effects on the resonance frequency but its influence on the growth rate of an instability depends on the plasma conditions. Although in all cases the collisions are found to have a stabilizing effect, it is shown that the dominant type of collisions (electronneutral or ion-neutral collisions) depends on the frequency range. It is also indicated that the resonance frequency and the growth rate of an instability in the unmagnetized plasma is higher than in the strongly magnetized plasma for non-zero propagation angles.

The dispersion relation of electrostatic waves in a complex plasma under gravity is presented. It is assumed that the waves propagate parallel to the external fields. The effects of weak electric field, neutral drag force, and ion drag force are also taken into account. The dispersion relation is numerically examined in an appropriate parameter space in which the gravity plays the dominant role in the dynamics of microparticles. The numerical results show that, in the low pressure complex plasma under gravity, a low frequency drift wave can be developed in the long wavelength limit. The stability state of this wave is switched at a certain critical wavenumber in such a way that the damped mode is transformed into a growing one. Furthermore, the influence of the external fields on the dispersion properties is analyzed. It is shown that the wave instability is essentially due to the electrostatic streaming of plasma particles. It is also found that by increasing the electric field strength, the stability switching occurs at smaller wavenumbers.

The evolution of filamentation instability in a current-driven dusty plasma with nonextensive distribution has been investigated in the dust acoustic frequency range. Using the dielectric permittivity functions of the nonextensive dusty plasma and the Lorentz transformation formulas, the generalized dispersion relation and growth rate of the filamentation instability are achieved. The results show that the possibility and development of the filamentation instability depend on the nonextensive parameters and drift velocity. It is found that by increasing the nonextensive parameter of electrons, the growth rate of instability declines slowly. Nevertheless, the development of filamentation instability is salient with the increase of nonextensive parameter and drift velocity of plasma ions. Moreover, the wavelength region in which the instability occurs is more stretched in the presence of higher values of ions nonextensive parameter and drift velocity. As compared to the electrons, the ions play a dominant role in the evolution of the filamentation instability.
