A special dye of SCF-X-ANR02 involving an anthraquinonoid chromophoric system and a new bridge group linked with a dichlorotriazine reactive group was designed and developed at the first time, in order to apply for dyeing cotton and wool substrates with a green technology in supercritical carbon dioxide. Moreover, the dyeing property of the obtained dye was also investigated and compared on cotton and wool fabrics. The results show that the designed SCF-X-ANR02 dye was successfully synthesized by employing an Ullmann reaction with copper as catalyst, as well as a subsequent condensation reaction for bonding a reactive group. Moreover, the chemical structure of the SCF-X-ANR02 dye was well characterized and confirmed by Fourier transform infrared FTIR analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy of 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The coloration results show that good dyeing properties, such as uptake and leveling behaviors, as well as color fastness were observed on cotton and wool fabrics in supercritical carbon dioxide dyeing media.
