Dynamic analysis of a belt transmission with the GMS friction model

Abstract: The paper presents a certain method of analysing the dynamics of a belt transmission. A flat transmission model developed by us was presented. For the analysis, it assumed the transmission 5PK belt. A discrete belt model, being a system of rigid beams interconnected with flexible and shock-absorbing elements, was used. To account for the mutual influence between the belt and pulleys, the Kelvin–Voigt contact model was used. The GMS friction model was also implemented, which allows all basic known friction phen… Show more

“…Based on the comparison in Tables 3、Fig. 4 and Fig. 7, it is clear that the modal frequencies of the large-span single tower and the coupled large-span tower system are very similar, as they are determined by the tower's inherent frequency.…”

“…An in-depth analysis of the characteristics of dance phenomena and investigation of its causes is fundamental to developing effective prevention and response strategies [3]. This includes examining the impact of wind speed and direction on dance phenomena, optimizing wire tension and tower configurations, and refining the design of insulators and towers [4]. Such research enables a better understanding of the patterns of dance phenomena under diverse environmental conditions, thereby facilitating the design of more scientifically sound and rational anti-dance measures [3].…”

“…To incorporate this phenomenon in a continuous friction model, an extra dynamics concept called average bristle displacement is introduced into LuGre model which embodies the complete frictional properties including sliding motion and presliding motion via a set of differential equations. Thus, in this paper LuGre model (Canudas de Wit et al , 1995; Kubas and Harlecki, 2021) is used to analyze the joint friction properties.…”

“…The development of these models, which accurately reflect the behaviour of the friction belt along the pulley, was dealt with by, among others, Leamy et al [20,22] developing so-called "Piecewise linear friction models", including the "Coulomb-like tri-linear creep-rate-dependent friction law", as well as Kim [16] developing the "elastic / perfectly plastic friction law". One can also find works using commonly used friction models, such as the Brush model [5,12], the Dahl model [18], or the GMS model [19].…”
