Dynamic and Contextualised Behavioural Knowledge in Autonomic Communications

Abstract: The conceptual architecture of autonomic communications requires a knowledge layer to facilitate effective, transparent and high level selfmanagement capabilities. This pervasive knowledge plane can utilise the behaviour of autonomic communication regimes to monitor and intervene at many differing levels of network granularity. This paper discusses autonomic computing and autonomic communication, before outlining the role of behavioural knowledge in autonomic networks. Some research issues, in particular the c… Show more

“…Here, the problem of context is examined from a high level, philosophical point of view, highlighting an approach that views context as an interactional problem rather than a representational one. Another form is that of dynamic contexts (Sterritt et al 2005) where it is the activity that generates and sustains the context. So, context arises from the activity and is actively produced and maintained in the course of the activity.…”

“…Firstly, there is a basic need for expressive and flexible means to promote contextawareness. Networks, their entities and services need to have an awareness of situations with differing degrees of granularity [Ste05]. There is a requirement for some form of computational model of context processing as in [Bal00] that orchestrates context stimuli and components in a coherent representation.…”

“…Therefore we ague that there is a basic need for the expressive and flexible means to promote contextawareness. Smart environments, their components and services need to have awareness of situations with differing degrees of granularity [4]. There is a requirement for some form of computational model of context processing as presented in [5] that orchestrates context stimuli and components in a coherent representation.…”
