Dynamic controller assignment problem in software‐defined networks

Abstract: In large‐scale software‐defined networks, multiple controllers need to be deployed in order to guarantee network reliability and scalability in a cooperative way, where the assignment of multiple controllers and switches is very significant and usually consists of static controller assignment and dynamic controller assignment. However, static mapping among controllers and switches is not adequately efficient and realistic due to the dynamic network traffic load. To this end, this paper pays attention to and so… Show more

“…A brief explanation about the specified layers is presented as follows: In the application plan layer, some business applications and the network explicit have interaction together using a specified abstract view of the APIs. The consumer applications as the business applications need to receive required services from the SDN controller . There is a client interface between the consumer application and the manager with dynamic operations such as announcement and initialization of association terms and flexibility decline. The data plan layer has a flexible communication as a set of the network components between existing resources and the network controllers that is realized by APIs for navigating data switches, resource routers, and virtual networking tools. The control plan layer has a core component namely, the main controller.…”

“…The control paths are a set of rules between controllers and switches (shown as dashed links in Figure ). Moreover, SDN controller placement has recently attracted increasing attention . There are several algorithms for controller placement in an SDN such as random placement, brute force, and heuristic algorithms .…”
