Dynamic Modeling and Analysis of Electric Motor With Integrated Magnetic Spring Driving Weaving Loom Application

Abstract: This paper presents the dynamic modeling and analysis of an electric motor with integrated magnetic spring (EMMS) when it is coupled to a weaving loom application. The EMMS can provide the majority part of the oscillating part of the load in a passive way by the magnetic spring. The electric motor provides the average torque and the remaining oscillating part in an active way. This reduces the energy consumption. To create an accurate dynamic model for the EMMS, lookup tables are generated from a finite elemen… Show more

“…This not only saves a huge amount of money but also it reduces the impact on the environment [1]- [4]. Consequently, improving the energy consumption of the electric motor drive system (the power electronic converter, the electric motor, the transmission system and the control system) have been receiving an essential interest from the researchers [5]- [10].…”

“…high peak-to-average torque ratio). Examples are reciprocating compressors and pumps, eccentric and piston pumps, pressing machines and robots as well as weaving looms [5]- [10]. The cyclic load profile negatively influences the driving motor system size, efficiency and energy consumption [6]- [10].…”

“…Several electric motors can be found [4]. Nevertheless, permanent magnet motors are widely used thanks to their high power density, efficiency and power factor which are very essential performance indicators for industry [5]- [6]. Recently, passive elements such as magnetic and mechanical springs have received an interest to be used in the driving system of the applications with a cyclic manner.…”

“…Recently, passive elements such as magnetic and mechanical springs have received an interest to be used in the driving system of the applications with a cyclic manner. The main goal of using these passive elements is to store energy and release it when needed [6]. The magnetic springs have several advantages compared to the mechanical springs such as high energy density, less prone to fatigue, ease of construction as well as tunability and a variable stiffness [5].…”
