Dynamic Modeling and Simulation of Catalytic Hydrotreating Reactors

Abstract: This paper describes a dynamic heterogeneous one-dimensional model of trickle-bed reactors used for catalytic hydrotreating of oil fractions. The model considers the main reactions in the hydrotreating process of oil fractions:  hydrodesulfurization, hydrodenitrogenation, and hydrodearomatization. The dynamic model was first validated using experimental data obtained in an isothermal pilot reactor during hydrotreating of vacuum gas oil over a commercial NiMo catalyst. Then, the model was applied to predict the… Show more

“…The models based on superficial liquid velocity have been extensively used by various researchers to simulate three-phase experimental reactors [16,[24][25][26]. The same approach has been followed in this work in order to simulate hydrodesulfurization and hydrodemetallization of heavy crude oil.…”

“…Organonitrogen compounds in petroleum feedstock undergo hydrodenitrogenation to form ammonia and liquid hydrocarbon [28,29]. Between alkyl amines, quinoline is one of the most relevant nitrogen compounds in VGO of which seven molecules of hydro- gen per nitrogen atom are needed to convert it to a hydrocarbon liquid within the boiling range of naphtha cut [27].…”
