Dynamic of a Space Charge in Gamma-Irradiated Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE)

Abstract: The aim of the present work is to study the dynamics of the space charge in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) irradiated by gamma rays. For this purpose, film samples peeled from cables have been irradiated with gamma rays at total dose up to 100 kGy, in air at room temperature. To investigate the impact of the irradiation on the electrical behavior, space charge measurements were achieved in ambient conditions after the irradiation using Pulsed Electro Acoustic (PEA) method. The space charge measurements on th… Show more

“…This may also cause the formation of space charges within the polymer, as seen in crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE). For the latter, changes in the electrical behavior has been related to radiation-induced structural changes [5] [6]. Many studies have shown that space charges contribute to the electrical behavior of XLPE.…”

“…Many studies have shown that space charges contribute to the electrical behavior of XLPE. A substantial amount of research has been conducted on the origin and effect of space charge formation on dielectric reliability [6][7][8]. Conversely, the origin of the space charge in PTFE is still poorly understood.…”
