IntroductionMenopause is a physiological and progressive phenomenon secondary to decreased ovarian follicular reserve. These changes have consequences: vaginal dryness, dyspareunia, discomfort, burning and irritation, vulvovaginal pruritus, dysuria and increased frequency of genitourinary infections. The therapy more suitable for vaginal symptoms in postmenopause yet is the use of a topical hormone. However, the prescription of topical oestrogens should also be avoided in women with a history of breast cancer, oestrogen-sensitive tumours and thromboembolism, emphasising the necessity of alternative treatments. Recently, physical methods, such as laser and radiofrequency (RF), in their non-ablative, ablative and microablative forms have been used in the vaginal mucosa to promote neocolagenesis and neoelastogenesis. This randomised study aims to compare the efficiency of microablative fractional RF (MAFRF) treatment with vaginal oestrogens and no treatment.Methods and analysesThis randomised, controlled clinical intervention trial with an open label design comparing the treatment of MAFRF with vaginal oestrogens and no treatment. Four important moments were considered to evaluate treatment results (T0, T1, T2 and T3). The primary outcome includes vulvovaginal atrophy (vaginal pain, burning, itching, dryness, dyspareunia and dysuria), and the secondary outcomes will be sexual function, vaginal health (epithelial integrity, vaginal elasticity, moisture, fluid volume and vaginal pH) and quality of life.Ethics and disseminationDue to the nature of the study, we obtained approval from the ethics committee. All participants must sign an informed consent form before randomisation. The results of this study will be published in peer-reviewed journals. The data collected will also be available in a public repository of data.Trial registration numberRBR-94DX93.

Aim: to develop a postoperative rehabilitation program for women with pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Patients and Methods: sixty postmenopausal women aged 55–75 with POP were randomized into two equal groups. All women underwent surgical intervention, which included anterior and posterior colporrhaphy and colpoperineo-levator-plasty. Group 1 women underwent five courses of radiofrequency therapy with a 14-day interval 30 days after surgery. Radiofrequency exposure was addressed by dynamic quadripolar radiofrequency (DQRF). Group 2 women were followed up without any additional rehabilitation measures. Ultrasound (US) examination using compression elastography was performed in all women To assess tissue elasticity. Neovascularization of vaginal walls was evaluated by superb microvascular imaging (SMI). The vascular intensity of the selected area of the vaginal wall was measured by automatic calculation of the vascularization index. US was performed twice, e.g., before and after surgery and rehabilitation (in group 1) or three months after surgery (in group 2). Results: in women who underwent DQRF therapy, an increase in the elasticity of vaginal walls was reported that indirectly demonstrates the increase in type 1 collagen and improvement of tissue vascularization. After surgery and radiofrequency therapy, the vascularization index increased by 1.6 times in group 1 and 1.2 times in group 2 compared to baseline. No postoperative complications were reported. Conclusion: this rehabilitation program is recommended for women who underwent surgical intervention for POP, given the efficacy and safety of radiofrequency therapy in the postoperative period. Aims There is increasing evidence to suggest that thermomodulation may have a role in the management of women with lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) and there has been widespread adoption of laser and radiofrequency (RF) therapies within clinical practice. However, in many areas of LUTD, the data are still limited and there remains a need for further evaluation of the safety and efficacy of thermal therapy. The aim of this study proposal is to report the findings of the International Consultation on Incontinence Research Society to clarify our current knowledge regarding the evidence for thermal therapy in LUTD and to set research priorities for the future. Methods Literature review based on the search terms: “laser,” “radiofrequency,” “genitourinary syndrome of the menopause” or “urogenital atrophy,” “stress urinary incontinence (SUI),” “pelvic organ prolapse,” “OAB” or “overactive bladder,” and “urinary tract infection.” Results The current available evidence, though of low or very low quality, appears promising for the use of laser therapy in the management of genitourinary syndrome of the menopause, there are some data to suggest a possible role in SUI although very little evidence for urogenital prolapse. At present, the evidence supporting the use of laser in OAB and recurrent urinary tract infection is limited or lacking, while the available evidence for RF in the management of all forms of LUTD is much less robust. Conclusions Laser and RF are being introduced clinically as a minimally invasive, low‐risk interventions for women with LUTD although at present, the evidence supporting usage is limited. Consequently, there is an urgent need to demonstrate the safety and efficacy with prospective long‐term studies including sham studies and comparative studies with current standard therapy.
