Dynamic Recrystallization of the Constituent γ Phase and Mechanical Properties of Ti-43Al-9V-0.2Y Alloy Sheet

Abstract: Abstract:A crack-free Ti-43Al-9V-0.2Y alloy sheet was successfully fabricated via hot-pack rolling at 1200 • C. After hot-rolling, the β/γ lamellar microstructure of the as-forged TiAl alloy was completely converted into a homogeneous duplex microstructure with an average γ grain size of 10.5 µm. The dynamic recrystallization (DRX) of the γ phase was systematically investigated. A recrystallization fraction of 62.5% was obtained for the γ phase in the TiAl alloy sheet, when a threshold value of 0.8 • was appli… Show more

“…However, when strain was in the interval of 40-60%, the shear stress of TD increased sharply and then decreased, as shown in point B of Figure 9. That was due to the critical deformation of grain in TD was reached in the strain interval of 40-60%, and a large number of dynamic recrystallization and twin phenomenon had occurred [23,24]. This can be confirmed from the results of later microstructural analysis.…”

“…The recrystallization grains of Al-4.6Mg alloy account for 6.9 wt.%, the subgrains account for 46.2 wt.%, and the de- The grain orientation spread method was adopted to analyze the dynamic recrystallization behavior of the alloy materials (Figure 2). Essentially, the discrepancy between the average grain orientation and all measurements was determined [20]. This method can also distinguish recrystallized grains from deformed grains and determine their volume fractions [21].…”

“…Casting microstructures of the TiAl based alloys are predominantly composed of α 2 /γ lamellar colonies. Considerable investigations have been carried out to obtain near gamma (NG) TiAl based alloys through forging [ 8 , 9 , 10 ], hot-pack rolling [ 11 ], or the extruding [ 12 ] process by adopting casting TiAl based alloys, due to the comparatively good hot deformability of the NG microstructure. However, remnant α 2 /γ lamellar structures, which would compromise the ductility of the TiAl based alloys, are difficult to eliminate completely.…”
