Dynamic response of a double-deck circular tunnel embedded in a full-space

Abstract: © 2016. This version is made available under the CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/A three-dimensional dynamic model for calculating the ground-borne vibrations generated by harmonic loads applied on the interior floor of a double-deck circular tunnel is developed. The response of the system is obtained coupling the interior floor subsystem and the tunnel-soil subsystem in the wavenumber-frequency domain. The interior floor is modeled as a thin plate of infinite length in… Show more

“…The outer pipe with infinite radius represents the surrounding soil and was simulated by elastic continuum theory [87,88]. The PiP model has been further improved and validated [89][90][91] by including a floating slab track and was used for predicting the effect of parallel twin tunnels [92] and a second deck [93]. More recently, the model has been extended to predict ground vibration from a harmonic load applied on a tunnel embedded in a multi-layered half-space [94].…”

“…An upper case letter with an upper bar has been used to identify that a variable is expressed in this domain. The coupling procedure is only outlined in the following paragraphs but the interested reader can find more details in [6] and [7].…”

“…The aim of this paper is to extend the results presented in [5] by studying the effect that the load speed has in the comparison between the responses of doubledeck and simple tunnels. In order to perform this study, the soil response to static and harmonic moving loads is computed using the 3D double-deck tunnel model recently presented in [6]. The comparison is performed by considering the energy of vibration radiated upwards by both tunnels.…”

“…en, Kuo et al [10] proposed a pair of parallel-tunnel models in homogeneous full space and calculated the difference between the vertical and horizontal results of the double-tunnel model and the single-tunnel model. Clot et al [11] extended this model to predict dynamic responses of a double-deck circular tunnel in full space. Parry et al [12] verified the behavior of the pipelines in a software model of pipeline vibrations to determine ground noise and vibration levels above a construction tunnel.…”
