Dynamic Simulation of a PV-Diesel-Battery Hybrid Plant for Off Grid Electricity Supply

Abstract: Mountain houses abound in particularly Mediterranean region of Turkey. The development of photovoltaic (PV) solar cells has offered an opportunity to supply electricity to these houses. In addition to mountain houses, transmitter stations in remote areas, sales points by the highways, nomadic communities and farmers may also benefit from PV systems for electricity. In case of insufficient radiation, diesel generators are used for this need. This study focuses on planning, modeling and cost analysis of energy s… Show more

“… Continuous Learning: AI models can be designed to learn from system behavior over time, leading to improved optimization and decision-making capabilities as the system operates and accumu-lates more data.  Energy Market Integration: "AI can facilitate participation in energy markets by predicting electricity prices, allowing the hybrid system to buy or sell electricity strategically, potentially leading to cost savings or revenue generation ( Ghenai & Janajreh, 2016;Lambert et al, 2006;Yilmaz et al, 2015).…”

“…Therefore, energy storage is essential to balance supply and demand [3]. Most studies on PV systems with battery storage, commonly known as o↵-grid systems, such as those presented by Dufo-Lopez et al [4], Shezan et al [5], Yilmaz et al [6] and Ghafoor and Munir [7], focus on the optimal sizing of these systems in remote areas that are isolated from grid connection and rely on diesel generators for their power supply. Sizing in these studies was based on determining the power and energy rating of the PV and battery facility respectively.…”

“…In regions where access to power grid infrastructure is limited the hybrid installations integrated with buildings could be used to provide electric power. In [8] an example of such situation is described on basis of a Turkey region. The complex installation which contains PV panels, diesel and battery was simulated with TRNSYS software.…”
