Dynamic structure factor [S(Q,ω)] of theS=1 quasi-one-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet: Neutron-scattering study onAgVP2S

Abstract: The spin correlations of the S = 1 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chains in AgVP2S6 have been studied by neutron scattering at temperatures of the order of T~~\0~2J/kB.On the polycrystalline samples, with a careful choice of experimental conditions, we have observed a Haldane gap of E g =26 meV at the antiferromagnetic point at q =/r. The excitation spectra are consistent with a mode that has a spin-wave velocity (7 = 150 meV and a correlation length §«5.5, close to C/E g . These results are in quantitative agre… Show more

“…It is interesting to note that in Eq. (51), there is no marginally relevant twist perturbation n\ • dxn,2 which appears in the continuum description of the two-leg spin ladder with a small zigzag interchain coupling (38). The two interaction terms in Eq.…”

“…The c = 2 quantum critical point, induced by frustration, describes thus a new universality class in spin ladders. In addition, the Toulouse point analysis enables us to investigate the effect of the neglected backscattering term U2 • (™i + ^3) °f the model (51) in the vicinity of the line g = 0. The main effect of this operator is to open a spectral gap in the Ising degrees of freedom of the c = 2 fixed point but has no dramatic effect on the effective S = 1/2 AF Heisenberg chain.…”

“…This material has the intra-chain exchange constant J/k B = 780 K and a weak single-ion anisotropy D (D/J = 5.83×10 -3 ). The spin gap Δ is roughly equal to 300 K [59,60]. The thermal conductivities of AgVP 2 S 6 for two samples are shown in Fig.…”
