Dynamical Analysis of Stiffened Plates under Patch Loading

Abstract: The vibration characteristics of stiffened plates with cutouts subjected to in-plane partial edge loadings at one end at the plate boundaries are studied using the finite element method. Buckling loads and vibration frequencies are determined for different cutout ratios and extent of partial edge loading at one end. In the structural modelling, the plate and the stiffeners are treated as separate elements where the compatibility between these two types of elements is maintained. The main elegance of the formul… Show more

“…For industrial floors with a fundamental natural frequency not higher than 10 Hz, the velocity peak is limited to a maximum of 20 mm/s for short-term vibrations, see Figure 4. Depending on the detailing of joists, girders, and slab, in this regard, the structural behavior of a given floor takes the form of a variably stiffened plate [33][34][35][36]. When the dynamic behavior of the floor in Figure 3 is mostly governed by a 'joist panel model' vibration (i.e., with a fundamental natural frequency that is close to the frequency of the joists in bending about their major axis), Equation (3) can be taken into account for preliminary estimates, thus operating on a b eff × L y equivalent module.…”

“…The vibration analysis of stiffened plates was made by Hamedani et al (2012) employing both conventional and super finite element methods. Srivastava et al (2004Srivastava et al ( , 2005Srivastava et al ( , 2013 and Srivastava (2012) investigated vibration characteristics of stiffened plates with cut-outs subjected to in-plane uniform and partial edge loadings at the plate boundaries using FEM. These studies show that aspect ratio of the plate, position and number of stiffeners, and size of cut-outs have pronounced effects on the dynamic instability characteristics in comparison to unstiffened plate.…”

“…It should not therefore cause catastrophic failure. A.K.L.Srivastava et al [5] have carried out the dynamical Analysis of stiffened plates under patch loading. The vibration characteristics are discussed and the results have been compared with those available in the literature.…”
