“…The other significant aspect of the 3GC r E. coli is that 95% (55/58) of the isolates were MDR based on the CLSI classification (CLSI, 2023). Genotypically, 79.3% of the isolates were ESBLs with the carriage of the bla CTX-M gene, as similarly reported from feedlot cattle (Agga & Galloway, 2023). Our findings clearly indicate the persistence of MDR and ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae (E. coli, Citrobacter, and Enterobacter species; Table 3) and two-fifths of the 3GC r E. coli (Table 2) in the agronomic soils withstanding the environmental stress conditions (Merchant et al, 2012).…”

“…For each sample, 10 g was transferred to a sterile filter barrier bag (Nasco Whirl‐Pack) and suspended by adding 90 mL of buffered peptone water (BPW; Becton, Dickinson and Company [BD]) and homogenized by hand massaging. After 8 mL aliquot was removed for enumeration, the remaining BPW sample suspension was incubated at 25°C for 2 h followed by 42°C for 6 h and then held at 4°C until secondary enrichments were performed the following day as described (Agga & Galloway, 2023). Bacteria were enumerated from 50 µL of appropriate dilutions of the aliquots using an Eddy Jet 2 spiral plater (Neutec Group Inc.).…”
