In particular, this genus has been recognized as a prominent gynecologic and obstetric pathogen positively associated with cervical lesions, including bacterial vaginosis ( Marconi et al., 2012 ), cervical intraepithelial neoplasia ( Mitra and MacIntyre, 2020 ), cervical cancer ( Kang et al., 2020 ), and intrauterine infections ( Knoester et al., 2011 ).
