Dysphagia Due to Forestier Disease: Three Cases and Systematic Literature Review

Abstract: Forestier disease or diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) is an uncommon cause of dysphagia. Cervical osteophytes can cause swallowing disorders through a variety of mechanisms, including: direct osteophyte compression of the pharynx and oesophagus, disturbances of normal epiglottis tilt, tissue inflammation and oedema around the oesophagus, and pharyngeal muscle spasm 4 11.
