Early adverse life events and post‐traumatic stress disorder in patients with constipation and suspected disordered defecation

“…[ 35 36 ] The body suffers from several harmful consequences of high levels of mental stress, both short and long term. [ 37 38 ] A study showed that stress decreases students’ ability to learn in class and causes a lack of attention, resulting in subpar work and low academic grades. [ 39 ] Similarly, many studies have proven that mental stress is negatively correlated with students’ academic achievement, with higher levels of stress leading to poorer academic performance levels.…”

Some investigations have shown that psychological stress and social disorder easily cause constipation ( 25 , 26 ) and anxiety tends to have a negative impact on their daily life ( 27 ). However, patients in the control group diagnosed with functional constipation were managed by their responsible nurse and doctor, their specific treatment measures were dominated by medical personnel.…”

“…Mental health problems are highly comorbid with visceral hypersensitivity in those who ever experienced EALs ( Hendrix et al, 2022 ). It was reported that the rate of anxiety was five times higher in IBS patients compared to normal individuals and anxiety sufferers were more vulnerable to IBS in return ( Lee et al, 2009 ; Mak et al, 2012 ).…”
