Early Assessment of Response to Radiofrequency Ablation With CT Perfusion Imaging in Rabbit VX2 Liver Tumor Model

Abstract: ObjectivesTo discriminate viable tumors from benign periablational enhancement (BPE) in early stage after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a major confounding problem. The goal of this study is to evaluate quantitative assessment and diagnostic value of CT perfusion between viable tumors and BPE after RFA in the rabbit liver VX2 tumor model, with pathological results as the standard.MethodsTwenty-eight VX2 liver tumors were treated with RFA, on days 1, 3, 7, and 14, seven rabbits were randomly chosen for CT pe… Show more

“…Moreover, it closely mimics the biological behavior of human malignant bone tumors. 52,53 MK and MD can measure the non-Gaussian distribution of water molecule displacements as typical markers of DKI models, which can be utilized to discriminate between regions with micro-infiltration and simple edema in malignant bone tumors and for postradiotherapy evaluation. 20,21,54 DKI enables sensitive examination of malignant bone tumors in animal models without being affected by microinfiltration or simple edema.…”

“…Construction of this model is relatively simple, and its biological properties are stable, the proliferation after planting is rapid, and distant metastasis can occur in a short duration of time. Moreover, it closely mimics the biological behavior of human malignant bone tumors 52,53 . “…CT perfusion imaging is a noninvasive functional imaging technique that reflects the hemodynamic changes in tumors with the foundation of enhanced CT ( 5 , 6 ). In comparison to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) perfusion imaging, it is insensitive to paramagnetic susceptibility artifacts, is more accessible, has shorter examination times, and has better patient tolerance.…”
