Early elbow osteoarthritis in competitive enduro motorcyclist

Abstract: This case report speculates that prolonged vibration from enduro off‐road sport is deleterious for the elbow joint. This contribution could also aid sports physicians in better understanding this complex unknown phenomenon. No published data are present in the current literature that demonstrates the correlation between early elbow osteoarthritis in enduro motorcyclist overuse.

“…The prevalence of symptomatic spine osteoarthritis in individuals under 50 years of age is very uncommon and challenging to treat [ 27 ]. Considering the current literature [ 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 ] supporting the relationship between vibration and osteoarthritis, our perspective is that over time, the continuous vibrations caused by off-road motorcycle racing can create microtraumas that can lead to spine osteoarthritis. Furthermore, various authors [ 33 , 34 , 35 ] have analyzed the possible relationship between the WBV experienced by motorcyclists as one of the highest risk factors for low back disorders.…”

“…It corroborates our idea that the HAVS occurs when operators are young, but they cannot feel the harmful effect of vibration because the body hides them. This mechanism predisposes young operators to encounter chronic pathologies in old age [ [33] , [34] , [35] ]. An antivibration handle could be used to mitigate the adverse effects of WBV or HAV.…”

“…According to Verma and Gangrade (2022), only 7% of failures that occur with motorcycles are caused by poor chassis sizing, however, when failures occur, the results are catastrophic, resulting in serious injuries and the recall of all vehicles. with problem.…”
