“…It appears that the same relations exist at Tintagel, Cornwall, where certain linear elements were formerly interpreted as 'in the a-tectonic direction'. Dearman, Freshney & McKeown (1964) re-examined these rocks and found that in fact these particular lineations were folded by later folds but were themselves actually parallel to a set of earlier folds so that the' accepted a-lineation at Tintagel is a 6-lineation related to an earlier phase...of folding'. These authors also mentioned the 'rectangular combinations of structures in Cornwall', a feature that the writer has now observed in scattered localities including Finland, Nepal, New Caledonia and New Zealand.…”

“…The lengths of the principal axes of the fragments are denoted by X, Y and Z after Ramsay (1967, p. 328) where At all 16 stations the shortest axis, Z, was perpendicular to cleavage, and nearly perpendicular to bedding, because the early folds in the area are tight to isoclinal (Dearman et al, 1964). In 15 of the stations, the intermediate axis, Y, was in b, and the long axis, X, in a, parallel to the mineral lineation.…”

“…In Pettijohn's (1957, p. 279) nomenclature, the rocks are agglomerates. Early tight to isoclinal, recumbent folds of bedding have a regional axial trend parallel to b (Dearman, Freshney & McKeown 1964), but at Tintagel the trends are anomalous and some lie between a and b. 1).…”

“…The resolution of this dispute is reflected in the fact that from 1930 onwards, what were previously referred to as Field Excursions became Field Meetings. Visits to Cornwall have continued (there are at least six recorded in the Proceedings since 1914) and there are now two GA Guides, one to the North Cornwall Coast (Dearman et al 1970) and one to West Cornwall (Hall 2005). …”
