Early metabolic characterization of brain tissues after whole body radiation based on gas chromatography–mass spectrometry in a rat model

Abstract: Radiation-induced brain injury involves acute, early delayed and late delayed damage based on the time-course and clinical manifestations. The acute symptoms are mostly transient and reversible, whereas the late delayed radiation-induced changes are progressive and irreversible. Therefore, evaluation of the organ-specific early response to ionizing radiation exposure is necessary for improving treatment strategies and minimizing possible damage at an early stage after radiation exposure. In the current study, … Show more

“…Due to complex physicochemical reactions, not only did metabolite levels show significant changes, but linkages between metabolites could also be altered [ 23 ]. The correlation network could provide an overview of a given status of the complex biological system and reveal dysregulated biochemical mechanisms associated with the stimulus [ 24 ].…”

“…During complex physicochemical reactions, not only the levels of metabolites showed significant changes, but also the metabolic linkage patterns might be altered. 21 The correlation network could outline a given status of a complex biological system and reveal dysregulated biochemical mechanisms associated with the stimulus. 22 Thus, correlation network analysis was then conducted to reveal the metabolic regulations following TBI irradiation using Cytoscape software.…”
