Early Pragian conodont‐based correlations between the Barrandian area and the Spanish Central Pyrenees

Abstract: Occurrences and distribution of extremely scarce eognathodontids do not facilitate reliable correlation across the European regions. The correlation of the traditional early Pragian of the Prague Synform (a part of the classical Barrandian area) and the Spanish Central Pyrenees (section Segre 1) is based on conodont taxa of the Icriodus steinachensis and the Pelekysgnathus serratus stocks. This correlation has the potential to be extended to other peri-Gondwanan regions where this scarcity of eognathodontid fa… Show more

“…1D-F). Previous geological and paleontological studies of various stratigraphic intervals (Ludlow to Emsian) of the Požáry Quarries were undertaken by Bouček (1937), Chlupáč (1953Chlupáč ( , 1957, Chlupáč et al (1972), Barnett (1972), Kříž et al (1986), Vavrdová (1989), Manda (2003Manda ( , 2008, Slavík (2004a, b), Manda & Kříž (2006), Slavík et al (2007), Carls et al (2007), Lehnert et al (2007a), Koptí-ková et al (2010a, b), Slavík (in press) among others. The first detailed (bed-by-bed) study of the Ludlow-Přídolí interval was made by Kříž (1965, unpublished data).…”

“…Conodonts from different stratigraphical intervals of the Požáry Quarries were studied by Barnett (1972), Mehrtens & Barnett (1976), Schönlaub (in Chlupáč et al 1980 andin Kříž et al 1986), Weddige (in Chlupáč et al 1986), Slavík (2004aSlavík ( , 2004b, Slavík et al (2007) and Carls et al ( , 2007. As mentioned above, the most important contribution to the conodont knowledge of the Ludlow and Ludlow-Přídolí boundary interval at the Požáry section was done by Schönlaub who studied conodonts also from the corresponding levels in several other sections (e.g., Marble Quarry, Mušlovka Quarry and Hvížďalka).…”
