Abstract: In dark growth conditions, seedlings develop specific features such as an elongated hypocotyl, a tightly folded apical hook, and non-green cotyledons. This dark-specific process, known as skotomorphogenesis, relies primarily on mitochondria and eventually etioplasts for energy.
