“…Similar to the results of Wang et al and Zhu et al, we found that HBs levels correlated with those of other viral markers, but not with ALT levels. While a weak correlation between LHBs and HBsAg ( r s = 0.46‐0.59) was reported by these authors, the correlation between HBs proteins (including LHBs) and HBsAg in our study was particularly high ( r s = 0.94‐0.97).…”

The divergence may be a result of suboptimal HBsAg quantitation, because Zhu et al found a better correlation of HBV DNA to LHBs than to HBsAg. Furthermore, the LHBs levels measured in our study were approximately 10‐20 times higher than those found by Zhu et al Such large divergences highlight the need for international standardization, as exists for total HBsAg.…”

“…Many studies have reported that parameters such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT), HBsAg, HBeAg, antibody to hepatitis B core antigen (anti‐HBc), HBV‐DNA, and viral genotypes alone or in combination play a role in predicting HBeAg seroconversion in patients with HBeAg‐positive CHB receiving IFN or PEG‐IFN therapy . However, these studies typically focused on the performance of single parameters for predicting HBeAg seroconversion, while more complicated models with multiple parameters are of limited clinical value …”

“…Positive HBeAg in serum indicates that HBV is actively replicating and highly infectious [ 18 , 19 ]. We found that fecal HBV DNA in patients with positive HBeAg was higher than in patients with negative HBeAg, and stool HBV DNA and serum HBV DNA were positively correlated.…”
