Earthquake Demand Energy Attenuation Model for Liquefaction Potential Assessment

Abstract: This study introduces an attenuation model based on the strain energy approach for estimating earthquake demand energy (EDE) to evaluate soil liquefaction potential. A new method is presented to estimate the EDE at a free-field site when only one record of the ground surface acceleration is available. This method was generated after analyzing the earthquake data of 18 downhole arrays in California. The developed method was later employed for calculating the EDE values of 328 earthquake records worldwide. Resul… Show more

“…They collected a data bank and proposed an equation to simply estimate the values of soil capacity strain energy. Regarding the demand energy, Baziar and Rostami (2017) used the seismological parameters of an earthquake to develop a method that can successfully predict earthquake demand strain energy at any site. One of the main advantages of the energy approach is that it considers the effect of the entire shear stress and shear strain time histories simultaneously and is independent of the loading and stress path amplitudes.…”

“…where ρ is the mass density of sand and assumed 2000 kg/m 3 , h is the depth of liquefaction zone, and a max is the peak acceleration. The technique has been proved effective [9,11,30]. In Figure 14, reconstructed shear stress-strain loops were shown for calculation of W liq and recalculated parameters σ' m0 and k p were also provided.…”

“…Nowadays most engineering complex problems are jointed with advances mathematical-based theories (Ebrahimi, Moradi, et al 2016;Ebrahimi, Taleshi, et al 2016;Baziar and Rostami 2017;Gao, Guirao, et al 2018;Gao, Wang, et al 2018;Hamid et al 2018;Fan et al 2019;Gao et al 2019;Liu et al 2019;Qiao, Huang, et al 2019;Qiao, Tian, et al 2019;Zhang et al 2019;Yang 2019a, 2019b;Chen et al 2020;Jinlong et al 2020;Liu, Zhang, Chen, et al 2020;Pourya et al 2020;Zhou, Moayedi, Bahiraei, et al 2020;Zhou, Moayedi, Foong 2020). Advances in technologies of remote sensing data acquisition, along with the increasing use of machine learning algorithms to analyze large sets of biological, biophysical, spectral has contributed to accurate mapping and differentiation of world's landscape (Pettorelli et al 2014;Murray et al 2018).…”
