Eco-friendly treatment of textile dye from aqueous solution using encapsulated biosorbent matrix beads: kinetics and breakthrough analysis

Abstract: In this study, Moringa oleifera-encapsulated alginate beads (MEA) were synthesized using Ca-alginate for the removal of anionic blue-FFS (AB-FFS) dye from an aqueous solution. The synthesized beads were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and BrunauerEmmett-Teller (BET) methods. The influences of initial pH, initial dye concentration and temperature were established in batch mode. The equilibrium biosorption obeyed both the Langmuir and Freundlic… Show more

“…Another observation was that the solutions became more alkaline as the mass of the adsorbent increased, facilitating the adsorption. [ 30 ] A pH of 5 was chosen as the optimal value since there was little to no change in the absorption and elimination capabilities, and the rising pH level was deemed less economically feasible. Investigations from the literature on nickel adsorption also revealed an optimum level similar to a pH of 5.0.…”

“…[57][58][59][60][61][62] The peaks at 2889 and 2820 cm −1 respectively correspond to the asymmetric and symmetric stretching of the C-H in the -CH 2 protein group. 63 The peaks at 1746 cm −1 and 1605 cm −1 were assigned to have the attributes of carbonyl that may be linked to the amides of protein or fatty acid from lipids as reported in the spectrum of the Moringa oleifera. The nal FTIR spectra show clear indication and successful incorporation of the Moringa oleifera in the electrospun ber.…”

“…e limited reports that exist on encapsulation of Moringa leaf extract (MLE) in alginate beads focus on the removal of heavy metals [26,27] or their bactericidal activity [28] and lack vital information related to their physical, antioxidant properties, and possible application in food.…”
