“…It seems favorable to consider that it appeared in Japan rather recently, taking the following facts into account. Firstly, it had not been isolated by the extensive mosquito surveys hitherto tried by the previous investigators (Mitamura et al, 1938;Buescher, 1956;Buescher et al, 1959). Secondly, no antibody againt Akabane has been shown as yet by the serological survey among residents in Gumma Prefecture even though the virus is harbored in common mosquitoes in the survey area.…”
