Ecological impact of CNG/gasoline bi-fuelled vehicles

Abstract: Abstract. The paper presents the results of an investigation carried on the potentiality of CNG as an alternative fuel for retrofitted gasoline engine analyzing its impact on exhaust gas emissions. In that case the results from emission testing of DACIA Logan on a chassis dynamometer MD-1750 are presented and discussed. The tests were realized at different testing conditions (idling, IM-240 cycle, 50 and 90 km·h -1 ) to see the influence on regulated and unregulated emissions. The analysis of the obtained expe… Show more

“…Summing up the considerations on biodiesel, it can be said that biodiesel is produced in the form of rapeseed oil [86][87][88][89][90], sunflower oil [91][92][93] or palm oil [78,94,95] or obtained from wood biomass [96]. Moreover, mixtures of diesel oil with NG [63,76,97,98], CNG [99][100][101] and LNG [102][103][104] or diesel fuel with Brown's gas [105] are used.…”

“…The authors presented the main environmental advantages and limitations of the use of this fuel in road transport, such as limited number of refueling stations, vehicle range, limited loading space due to gas tanks or longer refueling time compared to petrol or diesel. The environmental benefits of using CNG in a dual-fuel gasoline engine are presented in study [100]. In turn, Szpica and Dziewi ątkowski carried out research on the measurement of the catalyst conversion factor in an engine powered by CNG at various operating temperatures.…”

“…The conversion of diesel-powered vehicles to gas fuels deserves special attention. Technologies for the conversion of diesel engines to methane or liquefied petroleum gas (propane-butane) are known [23]. However, these gases are a non-renewable resource that can be used in a limited way.…”
