Economic analysis of hook and line fishery of Thiruvananthapuram coast, Kerala

Abstract: Hook and line fishing has been used for the last two decades along the Vizhinjam Coast targeting mainly tunas especially bullet tuna. The fishing methodology is in use for more than several decades, but systematic study in relation to the modifications in fishing practice and its impact on the improvement in catch and income generation of fishermen has not yet been done. They found a B:C ratio of 3.8, which is two-fold higher than the current study, while the operating cost ratio was 0.63, which is quite similar to the present estimates for the fishing villages of Kombuthurai (0.46) and Sothikuppam (0.45).…”
