Abstract:Changes and improvements in a-c and d-c transmission techniques and in system requirements provided the incentive jor a new review of the relative suitability of a-c and d-c for extra-high-voltage overhead transmission. Results of this study show that d-c continues to have disadvantages that re strict its use, for EHV overhead applications, to point-to-point transmission of power over distances in excess of 750 to 900 miles
