Economic Efficiency Measure of Induction Motors for Industrial Applications

Abstract: <p>This paper, introduced an expression of Economic Efficiency Measure (EEM) to permit quick evaluation for replacement of faulty induction motor with alternative (new or refurbished motor) for lowest life-cycle cost based on efficiency and rated-load conditions. This approach, simplifies the process for evaluating the energy efficiency to mere proportionate factor called as EEM. During the operating phase, the motor losses correspond to extra energy consumption, based on various parameters like motor op… Show more

“…The IM control research using conventional and vector control methods has been overgrown. This IM is better than other electric motors (direct-current motor, permanent magnet synchronous motor, and switch reluctant motor) regarding control method, reliability, technology readiness level, and price [1] - [2]. Recently, the IM has been widely applied in transportation as the main propulsion engine [3].…”

“…A sensitivity study of the most influential variables was conducted to obtain information before the replacement decision [30,31]. In all the cases, the variables to lyze the sensitivity are the running hours, considered in the range between 1000 and h/year, as well as the energy difference for different values between 2 and 12 percen In all cases, the reference operating point was set to annual operating hours at h/year and a 0.08 pu difference in performance between motors (reference value = 1)…”
