“…Our survival estimates are comparable to results from a previous meta-analysis of phase ii trials: 25.5% for 1-year survival and 10% for 2-year survival, with a median survival duration of 6.2 months 15 . Furthermore, a recent longitudinal study of metastatic patients conducted in Europe showed patient and tumour characteristics 20,21 that were similar to those in our cohort. At an estimated annual mean cost of approximately $30,000 per patient, our cost estimate resembles those at the lower end of the interval of estimates for metastatic melanoma from a systematic literature review of melanoma treatment costs 22 .…”

“…In addition, the CPIH index is not appropriate in this instance as some prices reflect non-health costs including informal care and social care. One study provided cost data in euros,18 and this was converted to GBP using the currency conversion rate for 2012 derived from XE.com (http://www.xe.com/currencytables/). …”

“…The lower costs might also be a result of more expensive treatments being more readily available after 2010. A recent literature review identified a resource utilization study conducted in Europe in patients with unresectable malignant melanoma 9 . The results of that study, which included 3 countries (United Kingdom, Italy, and France), showed that the hospitalization costs were highest in France.…”
