Economic modelling of different treatment strategies for haemophilia A with high‐responding inhibitors

Abstract: This paper reports a systematic review of the cost-effectiveness of treatment options in patients with haemophilia A with inhibitors. As very little relevant published evidence was identified, an economic modelling exercise was undertaken to calculate the cost-effectiveness of different strategies in the treatment of high-responding haemophilia A patients with inhibitors. A decision analysis approach was used to model the expected lifetime clinical outcomes and costs of the more common regimens currently used … Show more

“…French survey of haemophiliacs with inhibitors Stieltjes et al 9 It is well known that management of haemophilia patients with inhibitors is very costly [25][26][27]. The average monthly cost in our study is similar to that found in the COCIS study (s22 417 in SOPHI versus s20 893 in COCIS).…”

“…Because it directly targets the production of inhibitors, ITT is the only way to modify the natural course of this serious complication of hemophilia. Successful treatment can improve quality of life and potentially increase life expectancy [4,31]. Nonetheless, the procedure is time-consuming and expensive, approaching $1 million annually for the average 5-year-old child [4].…”
