Economic nitrogen rate for fertigation of green corn crop in the Brazilian semiarid

Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the nitrogen rate for fertigation associated with the maximum productivity of green corn (Zea mays) with a lower production cost, in two harvest seasons in the Brazilian semiarid region. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replicates, and the treatments consisted of four N rates (0, 80, 160, and 240 kg ha-1) in form of urea, applied via drip irrigation. The used cultivar was the Bt Feroz hybrid. The evaluated characteristics were: number… Show more

“…Sesame requires high amounts of N, which vary according to the aimed production, plant nutritional state, used variety, and part of the harvested plant (Beltrão & Vieira, 2001). However, there are no known works on N fertigation in Brazil, although this technique is already being used by producers in some drip-irrigation systems in the semiarid to reduce labor costs, facilitate the application of fertilizer rates, and increase the uniformity of fertilizer distribution (Souza et al, 2019).…”

“…To reduce the costs of fertilizer and labor, to facilitate parceling and reduce the loss of N by the volatilization of NH 3 and leaching of NO 3 − , the use of nitrogen fertilizers in fertigation for corn nutritional management can be a viable alternative, especially when the irrigation is delivered specifically by dripping (Sampathkumar, & Pandian, 2010;Aubert, Roozeboom, Ruiz Diaz, Gipps, & Wolf, 2016;Kumar, Rajput, Kumar, & Patel, 2016;Souza et al, 2019;.…”
