Economic Viability and Socio-Environmental Impacts of Solar Home Systems for Off-Grid Rural Electrification in Bangladesh

Abstract: This study conducted a questionnaire-led survey to explore the financial feasibility and socio-environmental impacts of stand-alone solar home systems (SHS) through stratified random sampling. Based on the above consideration, fifteen cases of studies of various watt peak (Wp) capacities have been investigated to evaluate the economic viability of solar home systems. The results revealed that most of the cases have positive net present value (NPV) and low payback periods, with an internal rate of return (IRR) … Show more

“…In particular, within the first several weeks of the pandemic, countries with low individualism and strong ambiguity resistance had higher instability as well as larger price declines. The private sector, including small business enterprises with a low recovery period (Asif et al, 2020;Iram et al, 2021;Sarker et al, 2020;Tehreem et al, 2020), emphasised that the government should use import substitution or boost domestic consumer and production goods production. The results of our calculation showed a negative association between stock market returns and COVID-19 cases.…”

“…The smooth transition model family is used to account for non-linear dynamics in the volatility method (Asif et al 2020), (Sarker et al 2020), (Iram et al 2020), and (Tehreem et al 2020). These allow observed variables to influence the transition between regimes, despite the presence of unobservable variables.…”

“…Econometric does not require a comprehensive understanding of data allocation necessary for the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE). However, a specified moment generated with the original model is required for this method (Asif et al 2020;Sarker et al 2020;Iram et al 2020a, andTehreem et al 2020). The computation of econometric is easy for available data allocation, unlike the computation of MLE.…”
