Economics of Groundnut Production in East Hararghe Zone of Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia

Abstract: Groundnut is one the five widely cultivated oilseed crops in Ethiopia. However, the subsector has been overlooked yet by development program interventions and analysis of its technical as well as economic is lacking far behind. Hence, this study presents of groundnut production in East Hararghe zone of Oromia regional state. It focuses on technical relationships between groundnut output and different inputs, economic resources use efficiency and cost benefit analysis. The result for the generated from 86 rando… Show more

“…This indicates that there is big difference between the mean level of productivity of farmers and the yield per hectare of the different varieties of groundnut released at different times. To date, most of the research done on groundnut in the country is mainly on the development of improved varieties [18]. However, in western Wollega there is constraint of low soil fertility and lack of fertilizer recommendation for groundnut as one of the major production constraints in the country has remained one of the greatest impediments to bridging the gap between potential and harvested yields.…”

“…About two-thirds of the world's groundnut seeds serve for the production of oil which is used for cooking, salad oils, and margarine, and lower quality oils are used in soap manufacture ( Pradhan, 2011 ). Groundnut is one of the five oil crops widely cultivated in Ethiopia ( Kudama, 2013 ) by the traditional farming communities in rain-fed conditions.…”

“…Groundnut is the second most significant oilseed plant in the warm lowland zone of Ethiopia (Kebede et al, 2017). This plant is cultivated in a different part of the country from those regions East Hararghe zone of Oromiya Regional State produces a large amount of groundnut in the country (Kudama, 2013). However, groundnut production in Ethiopia is highly restricted by several biotic and abiotic factors.…”
