Editorial on the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR) guideline on clinical indications for CT colonography in the colorectal cancer diagnosis

Abstract: endoscopic polypectomy in patients with at least one polyp ≥6 mm in diameter detected at CTC is recommended, considering surveillance only in case polyp removal is not possible. Knowledge about CTC is in continuous evolution and this means that a revision might be necessary in the future as new data appear.

“…In subgroup analyses of the external test, which only contained polyps of a certain size category, machine learning predictions of polyp class (benign vs premalignant) yielded an AUC of 0.87 in the size category 6-9 mm and 0.90 in the size category 10 mm or larger. Because current guidelines recommend OC-guided resection for colorectal polyps 6 mm or larger (United States Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer, European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology) the number of polyps 5 mm or smaller with available histopathologic reports in the external test set (nine polyp segmentations) was not sufficient to provide a reliable AUC for this size category (13,14).…”

“…(ESGAR) 70,83 han realizado dos consensos sobre las recomendaciones de como realizar e interpretar la CV e indicando la necesidad de que los radiólogos dedicados a esta exploración tuvieran un entrenamiento adecuado para su interpretación y desde el año 2014 la European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) se ha unido a la ESGAR y recomiendan la colonoscopia virtual como herramienta útil y alternativa a la colonoscopia 145 .…”
