Editorial: The research impact in management through the UN’s sustainable development goals

Abstract: As the reader has noticed, in our last three editorials, we have emphasised the discussion on research impact in a broader sense. In brief, we discussed the main concepts on research impact in the first one (Sandes-Guimarães & Hourneaux Junior, 2020). The second editorial aimed at presenting the most important models and frameworks for assessing research impact (Hourneaux Junior & Sandes-Guimarães, 2020). Finally, this series' third and last piece dealt with problems and criticism on research impact (Sandes-Gu… Show more

“…Our intention was to make the connection between research and society more evident by asking researchers to identify the societal purpose of their work, using an established global framework (Willson, 2022). We chose the SDGs because they are becoming a lingua franca for describing research impacts (Chankseliani and McCowan, 2021;Hourneaux Junior, 2021;Sianes et al, 2022). The societal impact goals element of the framework helps researchers identify what their research has contributed to.…”

The SDGs integrate social, economic, and environmental dimensions and provide guidance for humanity to prosper in the long term (Hourneaux 2021). The environmental issues are directly or indirectly involved in the subgoals of all the 17 goals.…”

“…Therefore, we stress the other main concept: SDGs can also be used as a reference or address research impact on management. Moreover, management research can contribute to the SDGs (Nilsson, et al, 2016;Biggeri et al, 2019;Chapman et al, 2020;Nations, 2020;Hourneaux, 2021;Jeffrey & Sachs, 2021) as indicated below:…”
