Efeitos da adubação nitrogenada em algodoeiro sobre a biologia de Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

Abstract: -The cotton aphid, Aphis gossypii Glove, is one of the pests of cotton crop and its relation with the host seem to depend on the amount of nitrogen available to the plant. The biology of A. gossypii using different cotton nitrogen fertility regimes was studied under greenhouse conditions, in Dourados, MS. A completely randomized design with nine replications in a factorial scheme (2x4x2)+1 was used. Two nitrogen sources (sulphate of ammonium and urea), four doses of nitrogen (50, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha -1 ), t… Show more

“…In general, results of N fertilization show an improvement in herbivores performance (Mattson 1980;Rae and Jones 1992;White 1993;Hogendorp et al 2006;Kerpel et al 2006;Huberty and Denno 2006;Barros et al 2007;Chen et al 2008;Aqueel and Leather 2011). However, there are some divergences regarding the effect of plant water stress on herbivores.…”

“…(Lepdoptera: Nymphalidae) on passion flower (Kerpel et al 2006). Furthermore, N fertilization positively enhances the performance of sap-sucking insects such as the mealybugs Planococcus citri (Risso) (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) on cocoa and coleus plants (Fennah 1959;Hogendorp et al 2006), Saccharicoccus sacchari (Cockerell) on sugarcane (Rae and Jones 1992), planthoppers Prokelisia dolus Wilson and P. marginata (Van Duzee) (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) on saltmarsh cordgrass (Huberty and Denno 2006), and aphids such as Aphis gossypii Glover (Hemiptera: Aphididae) on cotton (Barros et al 2007), Rhopalosiphum padi (L.), and Sitobion avenae (Fabr.) on wheat (Aqueel and Leather 2011).…”

“…A incidência equilibrada de pulgões está relacionada a níveis adequados de nitrogênio seja de origem mineral (Rutz et al, 1990;Bethke et al, 1998;Barros et al, 2007;Pitta et al, 2007), ou fornecido por fonte orgânica (Leite et al, 2005).…”

“…The increase in the population of the two-spotted spider mite observed in the treatment with the greatest dose of the N and K combination is correlated with the lowest strawberry production, which probably occurred due to the imbalance in nutrients (MALAVOLTA et al, 1997), leaving the plants more susceptible to pests. Additionally, nitrogen in high concentrations makes the plant tissue tenderer and increases the concentration of free amino acids in the apoplast and on the cell surface, which favors a higher incidence of insects (BARROS et al, 2007). According to Daugherty (2011), high nitrogen content boosts the reproduction and fecundity of the two-spotted spider mite, thus increasing its population in productive areas.…”
