EFEMP1 as a Potential Biomarker for Diagnosis and Prognosis of Osteosarcoma

Abstract: Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary bone malignancy. Our previous study revealed an association between the level of epidermal growth factor-containing fibulin-like extracellular matrix protein 1 (EFEMP1) and the invasion, metastasis, and poor prognosis of OS. However, the exact correlation between the serum EFEMP1 level and OS diagnosis and progression was unclear. This study is aimed at determining the value of the serum EFEMP1 level in the diagnosis and prognosis of OS. Fifty-one consecutive OS pat… Show more

“…We deduced ECs 7 might be remodeling ECs for its expressions of ECM organization and tissue remodeling genes including OMD, EFEMP1 (Wang et al 2020c ) and MGP, which also partly expressed IGFBP3, with ubiquitous expressions of tissue remodeling growth factors such as BMP4-6 and OGN (Fig. 3 C–E, Additional file 1 : Figure IVB).…”

“…TFAP2A, GBP1, EFEMP1, TBX18, DSC3, GATA4, and CA3 emerged as the highest significantly overexpressed genes in the fatal cases ( Figure 4 C). Except for CA3, all these genes have been reported to be potentially involved in tumorigenesis and their overexpression have been frequently associated with poor prognosis ( Pan et al., 2014 ; Tapia-Carrillo et al., 2019 ; Wang et al., 2018b , 2020 ; Zhao et al., 2019 ; Zhou et al., 2018 ).…”

“…S4). All of these proteins are involved in tumorigenesis (Hergueta-Redondo et al 2014;Bancovik et al 2015;Albers et al 2012;Zhou et al 1992;Gao et al 2010;Wang et al 2020;Han et al 2017;Seeliger et al 2009;Chao et al 2017). Proteomic analysis confirmed that these proteins were not detected in the original plasma samples, possibly due to their low abundance.…”

“…Phospholipid transfer protein isoform c (PLTP) is associated with lipoprotein metabolism and lipid transport in the vascular compartment (Albers et al 2012). Kallistatin is a serine proteinase inhibitor (serpin) that has diverse functions in apoptosis, inflammation and tumorigenesis (Zhou et al 1992;Gao et al 2010) and EGF-containing fibulin-like extracellular matrix protein 1 is a potential biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutic assessment in osteosarcoma, glioma, bladder cancer, human pancreatic adenocarcinoma and pleural mesothelioma (Wang et al 2020;Han et al 2017;Seeliger et al 2009). In addition, the contribution of selenoprotein p isoform 1 (SELENOP) to tumor formation and progression has recently been established (Chao et al 2017).…”
