Effect of 4 Weeks of Anti-Gravity Treadmill Training on Isokinetic Muscle Strength and Muscle Activity in Adults Patients with a Femoral Fracture: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract: This study aimed to identify the effect of anti-gravity treadmill training on isokinetic lower-limb muscle strength and muscle activities in patients surgically treated for a hip fracture. A total of 34 participants were randomly assigned into two groups: anti-gravity treadmill training group (n = 17) and control group (n = 17). The isokinetic muscle strength and endurance of hip flexor and extensor and the activities of the vastus lateralis (VL), vastus medialis (VM), gluteus maximus (GM), and gluteus mediali… Show more

“…As a result, gait training by antigravity treadmill compensates for traditional rehabilitation therapies' limitations and provides a rehabilitation plan for patients with femoral fractures to ensure a stable and effective gait. 23 Unloading the body weight during walking has the potential to reduce muscular activity as measured by EMG and change the muscle activation pattern. [24][25][26] Unweighing has also been shown in the literature to produce a reduction in muscle EMG activities that would be muscle specific.…”

“…A disposable surface electrode was attached after wiping and disinfecting the skin surface with an alcohol swab to obtain accurate data. The electrode was attached to the target muscles as mentioned previously [ 26 , 27 ], and the ground electrode was attached to the patella, fibular head, anterior superior iliac spine, and posterior superior iliac spine.…”
