“…Ensuring proper nutrition for sows during this critical time is paramount and has become a key focus for swine researchers. The widespread introduction of modern hyperprolific sows into the global swine industry, including in regions like Thailand, has been noted [ 9 , 10 ]. However, this has led to an observed increase in piglet pre-weaning mortality rates, raising concerns about economic losses and animal welfare.…”

“…(2018) reported that Landrace × Yorkshire crossbred sows in Thailand could have an average of 13.5 ± 0.4 piglets per litter in natural farrowing. Currently, litter size at birth in Landrace × Yorkshire crossbred sows can be as high as 17.0 to 18.0 piglets per litter (Taechamaeteekul et al., 2022; Thongkhuy et al., 2020), representing an increase of 7.0–8.0 piglets per litter during the last two decades. However, a high litter size not only has the potential to increase profitability in the pork industry but also presents challenges in managing sows and piglets during the peripartum and lactation periods (Tummaruk et al., 2022).…”

“…Important is the report of the authors P. Taechamaeteekul et al (2022) that with subinvolution of the uterus caused by an insufficient amount of prostaglandin F2a, the amount of colostral antibodies in colostrum decreases. And as noted by R. Rekawiecki et al (2020), during subinvolution, a decrease in the activity of the releasing hormone was observed, which indirectly affects the level of progesterone and the regression of the corpus luteum.…”
