Effect of a new heterocyclic insect growth regulator on morphogenesis and corpora allata in the cotton stainer, Dysdercus intermedius Sign. (Het., Pyrrhocoridae)
Abstract:The new insect growth regulator 2‐methyl‐4‐phenyl‐6‐parachlorphenoxy‐5,6‐dihydropyrane (MPCD) was investigated in Dysdercus intermedius. Continuous application of MPCD from the 3rd larval instar evokes a supernumerary larval instar and prevents metamorphosis. The corpora allata (c. a.) of treated insects appear heavily damaged. Mitosis rate and volume increase are diminished, intercellular gaps appear and nuclei are pycnotic. Thus, the morphogenetic effect of MPCD is similar to the action of isoprenoid juvenil… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
