“…These findings contribute to our understanding of the effectiveness of FoP nutrition labels from a public policy perspective and build on research that notes the superiority of simpler evaluative labels (e.g., Crosetto, Muller, and Ruffieux 2016;Dubois et al 2020;Ducrot et al 2016;Julia et al 2016;Newman, Howlett, and Burton 2016;Poquet et al 2020). We assess the effectiveness of a feature of evaluative cues that has received scant research attention (for an exception, see Andrews, Burton, and Kees [2011]).…”

Both 3C (Olstad et al 2015;Thorndike et al 2014) and 5C (Crosetto, Muller, and Ruffieux 2016;Dubois et al 2020;Ducrot et al 2016;Julia et al 2016;Poquet et al 2020) labeling interventions have positive effects, but the 5C nutrition label classifies foods into five grades of nutritional quality, from A (dark green = healthiest) to E (red = unhealthiest). Compared with the 3C nutrition label, it gives consumers a broader spectrum of nutrition rankings, which should enable them to distinguish products' healthiness more precisely (Lissitz and Green 1975).…”

“…For many, this eating occasion is a moment of pleasure and sweet foods are usually consumed [ 41 ]. Despite the adequate structure surrounding the mid-afternoon snack in France, it is therefore still advisable to encourage parents to limit children’s choices of snacks that are high in energy and encourage the consumption of a range of healthier snacks, without sacrificing the pleasure that comes with this eating moment [ 42 ].…”

“…However, some previous research has shown that the reformulation of confectionery products is also accepted by consumers [16,18]. Cereal bars are perceived as a healthier alternative to chocolate bars [25,26]. When buying confectionery, Poles increasingly pay attention to its health benefits.…”
