Abstract:We consider a semi-infinite expanse of a rarefied gas bounded by an infinite plane wall. The temperature of the wall is T 0 , and the gas is initially in equilibrium with density ρ 0 and temperature T 0 . The temperature of the wall is suddenly changed to Tw at time t = 0 and is kept at Tw afterward. We study the quantitative short time behavior of the gas in response to the abrupt change of the wall temperature on the basis of the linearized Boltzmann equation. Our approach is based on a straightforward calcu… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
