Effect of Acceleration of Moving Object During Collision with Stationary Object

Abstract: In an application where a robotic arm hits an object, the effect of impact is required to be assessed. A classical approach determines the effect of impact based on the velocities of the objects. Magnitudes of acceleration are ignored in the analysis. In the robotic application, velocity shall always be associated with acceleration as it is a start and stop type of motion. This paper demonstrates the need of accounting for the acceleration magnitudes also to determine the effect of impact.
